NEWBORN SESSION

Q. Are you qualified? A. Yes, I am a Licentiate Newborn Photographer as well as holing my Newborn Safety Certificate. I have also trained with one of the most-highly qualified newborn photographers in the UK. When you choose me you can rest assured that you are choosing a photographer who has the safety of your baby as their top priority. I will never put your baby in an unsafe pose and call on you if I need a spotter during the session.
Q. When should I book my session? A. For beautiful sleepy images newborn babies are best captured when they are under 2 weeks old (generally around 5-14 days) – at this age they are still very sleepy and easily settled and we get those lovely curly images. Older babies are still gorgeous and we will get some lovely images, however we may not get the really curly shots. Generally people get in touch after their 20 week scan to arrange a provisional date for the diary. Once baby has arrived let me know and we can book a suitable date and time.
Q. How long does the session last? A. Most sessions last around 2-3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, settling, changing and cuddles! I never rush a session and will be guided by your baby and practice safe newborn posing. No poses are ever forced and if you baby doesn’t feel comfortable in any of them, I move on to the next.
Q. What should I bring? A. If your baby has a dummy please bring it. We will have sterilised new dummies in the studio to use with your baby if they are unsettled. Please do not worry, this will not affect future habits but will ensure that your baby settles for the shoot and the dummy can be thrown away after.
If bottle feeding please bring plenty of bottles; your baby will feed more than normal during the session due to the warmth in the studio. For breastfeeding mothers plenty of time will be given to feed your baby.
I have a selection of props, wraps and outfits in a range of colours so there is no need to bring anything with you. Before the shoot we will have a consultation to discuss the type of look that you are after and I will prepare the colours and props ready for your arrival.
Sibling and parent shots are also taken at the session. For these please dress in something neutral (black/white/grey/cream) etc nothing too bold or with logos or patterns on as this can be distracting in the photos.
Tea and biscuits will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments.
Q. What will happen during the session? A. The sessions will take place in my cosy home studio in Maulden, Bedfordshire where I am to make you will feel relaxed and comfortable during the session. The studio will be kept warm, but baby will love it. We need it to be warm so baby is comfortable and sleepy. So please bear in mind that you might get warm too so come dressed in layers so you are comfortable too.
I will take a range of shots from simple beanbag poses to shots using props both wrapped and unwrapped and a mixture of colours. You can sit back and relax and take some time to enjoy the session.
Q. What will happen after the session? A. A viewing session will be booked around 2 weeks after the shoot where a gallery of between 20-30 high-resolution images will be presented. You can then decide on the Collection that you want to go for.
