Why choose a professional photographer for your baby photos?

When searching for the perfect baby photographer, to capture one of the most special times in your life, there are a few things that I would suggest you consider.

Is your photographer qualified? – I am a member of the Baby and Newborn Photography Association http://www.banpas.co.uk/ and also the Masters Photographer Association https://www.thempa.com/about

Is the photographer fully trained? – Even though I have three children of my own, I have been on several newborn specialist training courses which teach you how to handle and pose babies in a safe way. What’s more I have been trained by some of the top newborn and baby photographers in the UK.

Registered?  – Are they a legitimate business that pays tax and national insurance? I am registered.

Insured? –  Are they fully insured in case of an accident? I have full insurance and have public liability insurance.

Do they practice safe posing? – In a newborn session the most important factor is that baby is safe and comfortable at all times. Every session and baby is different, some prefer to be posed others don’t. I only do poses which your baby is happy and comfortable in. Your baby is never left alone, I either have mum or dad beside baby at all times either holding or watching them closely. Sometimes babies need to be held to get the perfect shot but then the images are merged together afterwards in Photoshop to create a composite shot.  A before and after sample of this is shown below.

Professional photographers spend time editing the images in Photoshop to make sure they are perfect for their clients.

Some other factors which should be taken into consideration:

The style – Does your photographer’s style and work suit what you love? There are different photographers offering very different styles from natural, posed, or a mixture of both. You should pick one that you will still love in years to come when you look at the photos on your walls.

Their location – Where is your photographer? Choosing someone local might be the best option as you don’t want to travel too far with a newborn baby or young child. I have a cosy home studio which is perfect for my newborn and baby sessions as it doesn’t overwhelm them and gives a lovely home-from-home feeling.

And finally cost – Does your photographer’s packages suit your budget? Photography is a luxury item and I offer a range of packages to suit your requirements.

I hope this helps, please feel to get in touch with if you have any questions.
